Weather Service Adds New Weather Alerts
Starting this winter season The National Weather Service in the Quad Cities will be issuing new weather alerts. The weather service is discontinuing the Wind Chill Advisory, Wind Chill Watch, and Wind Chill Warning.
They will instead issue a Cold Weather Advisory, an Extreme Cold Watch, and an Extreme Cold Warning. The weather service wants people to know that just because there is no wind doesn’t mean it’s going to get cold.
If extreme cold is predicted in the next 36 to 48 hours they will issue an Extreme Cold Watch.
When it reaches 20 to 29 below zero with or without wind, The Weather Service in the Quad Cities will issue the Cold Weather Advisory.
Then when 30 below zero is expected in the next 24 hours with or without wind they will issue an Extreme Cold Warning.
They also discontinued the Hard Freeze watch & Hard Freeze warning and will replace it with the current freeze watch & freeze warning.
By eliminating the Wind Chill Alerts the weather service will be able to make things easier to understand. It’s all part of the weather service’s initiative to make weather alerts simpler and easier to understand.
