Dry Conditions Lead to Burn Bans

September didn’t bring much rain to the area. We have seen lass than a quarter of an inch in all of September. That being said it has lead to drought conditions in our area. According to the Quad Cities National Weather Service we are seeing Abnormally Dry to Moderate drought conditions in our area.
This has lead the Iowa State Fire Marshall issuing burn bans including Dubuque, Clinton, Cedar, and Scott Counties in our area. According to the Weather Service in the Quad Cities the best way to make sure that fires don’t occur is to do the following:
- Avoid or Delay outdoor burning of any kind
- Properly Dispose or extinguish cigarettes or cigars
- Secure Truck and Trailor Chains
- Avoid using any equipment which could easily spark outdoors
By following these tips it makes it easier for fire crews to avoid being called out. The State Fire Marshall also said if a person needs to burn something, a burn permit can be requested form your local fire chief.
Exercise caution if doing any burning and if your having a campfire to monitor the fire and embers. Always have water on stand by in case of the fire gets out of control.
