Sunny today and around 60....great. Just talked to Tom Callahan, manager of the Jackson County Fair and Pearson Memorial Center. Said the l5th annual Garage Sale held Saturday was down from a year ago, probably because this year it was on a Saturday, instead of Sunday. Down a few hundred people, bu still a success, says Tom. He also reminded me that Stock Car Racing in Maquoketa starts the last Saturday in April.....and, he said he's pretty sure Darrell Singletary, Country singer, will be one of the key entertainers at this year's Jackson County Fair, the last week of July. Agreement has been reached, but papers still not signed.......Easter Egg hunt was a big success Saturday, put on by the Maquoketa Kiwanis and BradDeeryMotors......The Big Bend Seniors defeated the Big East Seniors in both the girls and boys games held Saturday night in Maquoketa. Girls won by only 2 points. A bit crowd at the gym, so it will now probably be an annual event. KMAQ broadcast both games.....Went to a 4-Course wine tasting dinner last night with Nancy, at the Decker Hotel. Wine served by Paul Tabor, JacksonCounty's wine-maker. We sat at table with Asher Schroeder, Rob and Marilyn Deegan, the VET, the Doc Roeders, and Corey Roeder and wife Penny of Dubuque. Had a nice time. Good food. Four good wines and good conversation. About 40-50 attended. Tabor is doing well with his new winery and it is a good thing for Jackson County too. If you would like to buy some Tabor wine, let me know. I'll get some information to you via e-mail. I think Paul has a WEB SITE,but I don't know what the address is....Son-in-law Charlie Clasen bought a used T-Bird for my granddaughter, who this summer can start practice driving......Charlie did a lot of work on it and it looked pretty sharp..until Saturday night, it was struck while parked in the street...guess it may be a total loss....and my granddaughter isn't too happy.....Charlie, Christy, Sara and Nate live on Angus Court along highway 61......Tom Messerli, KMAQ's Chief Engineer, got out of hospital yesterday and is now back home recuperating from his 5-bypass surgery.......Ruby Short, age 89, of Maquoketa died Saturday at a Dubuque hospital. She is survived byh 5 daughters and 3 sons, including Bill Short of Monmouth, Iowa.....The search is underway for a new hospital adminstrator, but one isn't expected to be hired until June. Eight candidates will be interviewed April 12 and the second round of interviews will be held the week of April 26th. This announced at the last hospital board meeting. The board set June 2nd for the annual JCPH Health Foundation Golf Tournament at the Maquoketa Golf Course. Last year, the event raised $22,000. Also it was announced that the JCPH hospital will be celebrating 50 years with a community event on May 16, 2000...Jackson County's Nude Dancing Art House has been open nearly a month, at rural LaMotte and is doing well. Open Thursday-Saturday nights only...with 6 to 9 dancers....on one stage if a small crowd or on 2 stages if a big crowd. Admission is free, but you have to pay for a parking space. No booze sold, so you have to bring your own. According to the story in today's Dubuque paper, mostly men have been the patrons...with a few girls coming with their date, or husband....The old Goody Pop Maquoketa Bottling Works building has just been torn down next to the baseball field at north edge of Maquoketa....an old building with a long history...but making way now for housing development along the Maquoketa River....And that will have to do it for now.
