Not a bad day....in the mid 30s and some sun. Maquoketa boys got a 3-point basket in the final 2 seconds to win over Camanche here in town last night....while the girls lost to Camanche there....and Iowa beat Michigan this afternoon. Bob Phillips of Colorado died this past week. His father was a longtime dentist in Maquoketa and Bob was an MCHS graduate. He is survived by a brother, John. Big turn out for the 9 AM legislature coffee at the Decker Hotel, hosted by the Farm Bureau. St.Rep Bob Osterhaus and St. Sen. Tom Flynn were both on hand to field questions. Most of discussion was on Maquoketa efforts to go for Drug Testing of athletes this fall. A change in Iowa law will be necessary first and both Osterhaus and Flynn will sponsor a bill to try and get that done. Have a good Sunday...may YOUR favorite team win the Super Bowl.

Well, I'm back....really wasn't gone...but a computer glitch kept a few daily reports from making it on the internet. Thanks to my first boss in radio, Bob Brown from Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin, I found out there was a problem and my son Dave fixed it right away. Hope you had a chance to catch up by reading the last couple reports, LATE. A little sunshine today, not much....No big news, just routine items like many days....fender benders, court cases, etc. Maquoketa's basketball team lost to Cascade here in town Tuesday night and play Camanche tomorrow night. The wrestlers have a double-dual here tonight, with Clinton and DeWitt and we are broadcasting it, with Dr. Paul Koob describing the matches....Too bad we don't have REAL AUDIO...whereby KMAQ could be broadcast on the internet. Lots of big stations are doing it, but it is quite costly. And, good night.

Busy day today.....especially since I sat in Doc Biehl's dentist chair a couple hours...getting a cap re-done. Doc works jsut 2 days a week. Plus, he helps Lois with maintenance at the Dairy Queen which they have owned for many years...I have NEVER seen Doc work inside the place though...waiting on customers.....and of course, Doc is a great St. Louis Cardinal fan...always has been. Won't be long and the Cardinals will start spring training....B & C Liquor was broken into last night. Taken....4 bottles of Southern Comfort...8 packs of Busch Beer and a bunch of lotto tickets...the window of the door was broken for entry.....Victor Banowetz, 85, died yesterday at the Crestridge Nursing Home. I don't have his complete obit yet, but I know he is survived by son Mike, who works at the Maquoketa Post Office. Another son is Delbert, and I think is he now in the lawn car business in Davenport or Dubuque.....nothing more today.

It is 73 degrees....sunny...and a 5 MPH southerly wind...a beautiful day in Maquoketa.....just a little nicer than the weather at Charles Mitchell's place in Carlsbad, California....Robert Abbott, former Maquoketan in Ohio, nice hear from you also....knew your dad a little...know your mom more...in fact...mom Arlene is going to Potter'Mill in Bellevue today with KMAQ's veteran sales rep Dottie Bayles...and a good friend fo Arlene....and good hearing again from Bob Muller, MCHS grad in the 60's, now living in South Carolina....heard from all of these people on the KMAQ WEB SITE "Guest Page"...so hope you guys check that WEB site often.....Another WEB site that gets guest-book entries from around the world is www.Maquoketa.com....owned by my son David...he also owns www.teacherswanted.com, but it still hasn't taken off. The trouble with a WEB site....once it is established, the next problem is getting it known....he also just did up a site ,FREE, for the Iowa Antique Radio Historical Society.....I am a member....and it can be seen at ... http://members.xoom.com/iarchs....take a look. Maquoketa boys won the Big Bend Wrestling Tournament at Cascade yesterday. The Maquoketa Girls and Boys basketball teams had a double header here last night.....unusual....it would be nice if there were more MCHS girl-boy double-headers....anyway, Maquoketaa hosted Maquoketa Valley , Delhi, and the girls lost, buy Maquoketa boys won. We did the games on KMAQ-FM. On AM last night, we did the Iowa-Wisconsin game at Iowa City. Jake Bickford, owner of Bill Molers, has season tickets and asked me to go game since I'm a former Badger and former Wisconsin student.....but that's long ago and I cheer for Hawks always first...and last night, they needed more than cheers...they lost to the Badgers in a badly played game....ex-Badger Sam Okey played and had 8 points for the Hawks....so, Iowa has lost 3 in a row. Wednesday night, KMAQ Travel, and I...(a full bus) will see them hopefully beat Penn State. Before the game, Jake and I visited the new Coral Ridge Mall at Iowa City...now Iowa's largest...and it is great..something to see. A huge sporting goods' store called SHEELS and the food-court area features a full fledged ice skating rink and a 10-screen movie theatre...and it was packed at 5 P.M.....we ate in a steak place in the mall....large and packed....they gave us a vibration-type pager to let us know when your table was ready...so we walked the mall for 20 minutes and then the thing went off just like they said it would....good dinner...sat next to a Wisconsin couple and their 2 kids who drove down to see the game. Do I have any Wisconsin poeple checking this site?? Well, it is l o'clock, and I'm going to record tomorrow morning's RFD 1320 SHOW and then stop by the theatre. May view A BUGS LIFE.....later in afternoon,my little granddaughter from Bettendorf is coming up, bringing along her mom and dad....and Nancy has a Beef Roast in the oven.....so that's it. Oh, just checked, we are up one degree. Just saw a couple guys go buy in their red convertable. Have a good week.

Cloudy, windy, light rain, now light flurries and all to end this afternoon with cloudy skies tonight and tomorrow.....PEOPLE ARE READY FOR SOME SUNSHINE AROUND HERE.....A Maquoketa School District suburban carrying players to DeWitt for basketball yesterday afternoon was involved in what could have been a serious accident. No one was injured, the the vehicle was badly damaged. Driver was long-time Sophomore Coach Dennis Streets. He failed to see another car coming on 4-lane highway 61....there was slight fog...and the two collided. The other player vehicle was traveling with it, but was not involved. Streets will probably be charged........Maquoketa played 4 games against DeWitt Central last night and lost all 4. The girls lost their sophomore and varisity game here in town. The game was tied at the end of 3 quarters but then DeWitt dominated the final quarter. Maquoketa girls have one only 2 games this season and a win over DeWitt would have been a real upset. The Maquoketa boys beat DeWitt earlier in season and lost last night, both Sophomore and Varsity games..on DeWitt's floor. DeWitt like Maquoketa is having a good season. Maquoketa came to within 3 points late in game, but DeWitt made about 6 free throws in the final stretch to win the game. Maquoketa is still coached by Bill Flemming and DeWitt still coached by Neil Padgett...both have held their position for overr 30 years and both started out together down in DeWitt....there is real rivalry between the town towns...the teams and the coaches.....they said the gym was packed last night at DeWitt......Jake Bickford and I are going to the Wisconsin-Iowa game at Iowa City tonigth...should be a dandy....Have a good weekend.
